2022 WWBA Workout Showcase (June 23)
Michael Ray is a 2025 1B/3B with a 6-3 260 lb. frame from Memphis, TN who attends Memphis University School. Impressive large frame with physical strength well beyond his years and emerging overall athleticism with lots of time to refine. Primary position 1B, moving around the bag quite well and making plays with pretty fluid actions. Squares well to the ball presenting glove out front and using a deep funnel to transition for throws. Methodical footwork that was on point displaying good agility for the young athlete considering his size. Emerging arm strength, showing throws up to 70 mph on feeds to second and third base. RHH working from a slightly open stance and loading aggressively into his backside. Sets his hands high with a rigid hand load and attacks the ball with an aggressive shift in weight. Barrel control was a little inconsistent, which is to be expected at this age but he showed real pull side juice and advanced power for his age. When on time he really leaned on some pitches, creating loud contact with good launch angle. Tremendous student, advanced academically.
