Preseason Top 50 High School Team Rankings


Trending Upwards

Parkview High School, from Lilburn, Ga., makes the largest leap in the rankings this week. They began outside of the initial Top 50 and have vaulted all the way to No. 5 overall after winning the Perfect Game High School Showdown last weekend. The Panthers have an overall record of 8-1, losing only to fellow Top 50 member Lassiter High School (Ga.) a few weeks ago.

Fellow Georgians Kennesaw Mountain also made a big jump, moving from No. 21 up to No. 6, following an excellent showing at the PG High School Showdown, losing only to eventual champion Parkview. They boast quality wins over Venice (Fla.) and former No. 1 Lambert (Ga.).

Pearland (Texas) and Sulphur (La.) make their debuts in our rankings at Nos. 17 and 18, respectively. Pearland checks in at 12-1-1 so far, while Sulphur has yet to be beaten in 2015, as their record stands at 11-0.

Other teams making their debuts in our rankings in the latter half of the Top 50 include Archbishop McCarthy (Fla., No. 21); Dallas Jesuit (Texas, No. 35); Lassiter (Ga., No. 48); and Carroll Southlake (Texas, No. 49).

Also making a big jump in this edition is Coppell (Texas), who jump all the way from No. 50 due to a hot start that has seen them go 6-0 so far in 2015.


Trending Downwards

Several teams have seen their ranking spot drop quite a ways due to rough starts. Worry not, however, as the season is still quite young. The biggest fallers in this week’s edition of the rankings are Lambert (Ga.), who fell from No. 1 overall to No. 12; St. Thomas More (La.), who went from No. 3 to No. 16; Huntington Beach (Calif.), who went from No. 4 to No. 19; and Tampa Jesuit (Fla.), who fell to No. 40 overall from No. 10.

A few teams fell completely out of the rankings in this week’s edition, including: Damien (Calif.), North Florida Christian (Fla.), Plant (Fla.), De La Salle (Calif.), American Heritage-Delray Beach (Fla.), and Lake Mary (Fla.).


Holding Steady

A good number of teams either have not started their season quite yet or have played so few games that if they moved in our rankings it was only a few spots one way or another.

The teams who have not started their seasons yet are: Puyallup (Wash.), Moeller (Ohio), St. Rita (Ill.), Brother Rice (Mich.), Hickory (Va.), Westminster Christian (Mo.), St. Thomas Aquinas (Kan.), Poly Prep Country Day (N.Y.), and Battlefield (Va.). They saw their rankings stay pretty much exactly the same.
