National High School Top 50: March 23

NHSI 2015: Day 1 Recap | Day 2 Recap | Day 3 Recap | Day 4 Recap

The big story this past week was obviously the National High School Invitational, which pitted several of the Perfect Game Top 50 teams against each other. San Clemente (Calif.) won the whole tournament, despite being without their ace, Kolby Allard. Allard is ranked No. 3 overall in the Perfect Game rankings for the class of 2015, and scouts nationwide have long lauded him as a potential top 10 pick in the draft. He's out for several weeks with a stress reaction in his back, but that didn't matter to San Clemente, as they went on to go 4-0 at the NHSI.

Along the way San Clemente beat fellow Top 50 teams College Park, Huntington Beach, College Station, and Lambert. This was a truly outstanding performance that vaulted San Clemente back into our top five overall, claiming the No. 3 spot.

Several other schools had very good weeks at the NHSI as well, including JSerra (3-1), College Park (3-1), Puyallup (3-1), and Farragut (3-1). Huntington Beach, who dropped out of our Top 50 last week, finds themselves back in it this week after a very strong 3-1 performance at the NHSI.

We have finally almost reached the point where every school in the rankings is playing, and those who haven't yet should begin play this week, weather permitting. That should certainly help shake up the board for next week.

Debuting in the Top 50 for the first time in 2015 are several schools, including Oviedo (Fla.), Cullman (Ala.), Summerville (S.C.), and Houston (Tenn.). Congratulations to those schools.

The No. 1 overall team for the third straight week, Park Vista (Fla.) has a pretty cool story going. They started the season 0-1, losing their first game, but are 15-0 since then, dominating the competition in Florida.

We're down to only a few schools who remain unbeaten (after playing 10 plus games). They are Olympia (Fla.), San Clemente (Calif.) and Sulphur (La.).
