PG Freshman All-Americans

LSU shortstop Alex Bregman and Cal State Fullerton right-handed pitcher Justin Garza are a step above the rest, but college baseball was filled with plenty of talented freshmen during the 2013 college baseball season.

Bregman and Garza headline an outstanding list of 2013 Perfect Game College Freshman All-Americans, the two teams listed below.

Bregman entered his freshman campaign with high hopes, and certainly didn’t disappoint. He showed good range at shortstop, stable skills and a strong arm from a defensive standpoint, and had a good, consistent, bat with good power. Though Bregman didn’t shine at the College World Series, he undoubtedly was a huge reason why the Tigers experienced so much success this past spring.

Much like Bregman, Garza, albeit in a different way, shined in his debut campaign for the Titans. Joined in the weekend rotation by outstanding right-handed pitcher Thomas Eshelman, Garza earned a reputation as a hard-nosed pitcher with elite stuff.

Coaches called Garza a “knife-fighter type” of pitcher, and his attitude and stuff backed that up throughout the spring. Garza, in addition to the great numbers he compiled, had a fastball in the 90-94 range, along with a good crop of secondary pitches, including a good 80-82 changeup.
