451. Korey Dunbar
, c, North Carolina (JR)
R-R, 6-0/215, Nitro,
W.Va.
Previously Drafted: Dodgers ’12 (39)

Dunbar didn’t play much as a freshman, but ever since he’s taken over starting catching duties for North Carolina he’s impressed with his defensive skill-set. Dunbar has no issues receiving or handling a pitching staff with pro level stuff and velocity, as he demonstrated in his brief time on the Cape Cod League last summer. He also has a strong arm, nabbing 21 of 57 (36.8 percent) of would-be base stealers this spring. His performance in the batter’s box has been far less predictable, however, as he’s struggled to make contact at times and will chase pitches. Still, he improved at the plate this season, and was more consistent in utilizing his strong frame, as he set career bests in doubles (16), home runs (6), on base percentage (.362) and slugging percentage (484).

452. Jacob Stevens
, rhp, Choate Rosemary Hall
B-R, 6-3/220, Darien, Conn.
College Commitment: Boston College

Stevens converted to a primary pitcher last year and took a fifth year at a private high school that other Northeast prospects have occasionally taken in the past. He's shown plenty of development with the additional time and repetitions, although he is now 19-years old. Stevens pitched in the 90-92 mph area much of the spring with good heavy sinking life, touching 93-94 mph regularly from a three-quarters arm slot. His mid- to upper-70s curveball is a solid second pitch and he does a good job of filling up the strike zone with both pitches.

453. Blake Davey
, c/1b/of, Connecticut (SR)
R-R, 6-4/234, Newport Beach, Calif.
Previously Drafted: Never Drafted

Watching Blake Davey take a round of batting practice puts his biggest tool on display rather quickly and clearly. Showing 60 raw power on the 20-80 scale, Davey won’t sell out for power as he shows a feel for the barrel hitting .300 or better during each of his two seasons in Storrs. Though there is some swing-and-miss in his profile, Davey still shows off his strength in game action hitting seven home runs in 2015 (he hit 10 in 2014) and led the team with 21 doubles.

454. Max McDowell
, c, Connecticut (JR)
R-R, 6-1/208, North Huntingdon, Pa.
Previously Drafted: Never Drafted

A solid athlete with loose and flexible actions behind the plate, McDowell put together a nice overall year on both sides of the ball while showing off his strong catch-and-throw skills. At the plate McDowell is a righthanded hitter who is capable of putting together quality at-bats and get on base thanks in part to his quality two-strike approach (24 walks, 20 hit-by-pitch, 27 strikeouts). With a short and quick swing and a feel for the barrel, McDowell ended up tied for second on the team with seven home runs while driving in 45 runs.

455. Carson Cross
, rhp, Connecticut (SR)
R-R, 6-6/205, Brentwood, N.H.
Previously Drafted: Pirates ’13 (24)

Senior Carson Cross put together one of the best pitching lines in the country, finishing the year with a 10-2 record and a 2.29 ERA over 106 innings pitched. One reason for all his success is his command of three pitches and a feel for the strike zone, as shown by the 25 walks he issued. Another reason is for the late break on his disappearing slider the last 10 feet that picks up a lot of swings and misses, evidenced by his 108 strikeouts. He doesn’t light up the radar guns, working 85-90 mph, but has an overall feel with a swing-and-miss breaking ball.
