10u Championship Recap: Day 5

Jordan Posway

Four teams entered the semifinal round of the PG Super25 10u National Championship, but only two would continue their quest for the 10u title. After two hard-fought semifinal bouts, the stage is set for a highly anticipated championship game. Here’s a recap of Tuesday’s action from East Cobb:

The Midland Blackhawks were relentless in their 15-8 thrashing of the previously undefeated Tri-State Arsenal-McAdams. The Blackhawks never took their foot off the gas as they scored eight runs in the final two innings. Dax Estep had a rough outing on the mound, but he was a difference-maker on offense with three RBIs. The Blackhawks’ relief pitchers, Colton Hartman and Carter Sunderman, imposed their will in the final three innings, bringing the Blackhawks one step closer to defending their 2014 national championship title.

After besting the Bronx Bombers in the semifinals, the 643 DP Cougars will collide with the Midland Blackhawks in the championship game. The two squads exchanged the lead early in the contest, but the Cougars would pull away in the bottom of the third thanks to meticulous hitting by AJ DeMastrie and the 643 offense. DeMastrie’s RBI triple and a pair of RBI singles gave the Cougars an insurmountable lead. Carson Kerce quelled the Bombers’ late rally with a couple of strikeouts as the Cougars held on for the 10-6 victory.

The 643 DP Cougars will look to end the Midland Blackhawks’ reign as defending national champions tomorrow morning at 11:30 in what should be a very dramatic PG Super25 10u National Championship game on Field 7.
