12u Championship Recap: Day 2

Jordan Posway
Offenses ran wild on day two of the PG Super25 12u National Championship. Batters knocked the ball all over the park, and many times out of it. Here’s a recap of Friday’s pool play action:

The Alabama Elite dominated on both sides of the ball in their 14-0 rout of the SBO Elite PR. Braylon Myers and the Alabama Elite erupted for fourteen runs in the first three innings while their pitchers made quick work of the opposing offense. Hunter Elliott, Tashone Corbitt, and Kyrin Long combined for a no-hitter in an all-around excellent performance by the Elite.

Austen Baker’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the fifth sunk Team Rawlings PBF and secured the Alabama Elite’s second straight win 9-7. Once again, errors came back to bite Team Rawlings. Three defensive miscues added three unearned runs to the Elite’s total.

Nathaniel Price was a major contributor in the Banditos’ 5-2 win over the Cincinnati Spikes. Price struck out four in three scoreless innings from the rubber, but he wasn’t done there. His solo shot to left field in the second inning gave the Banditos the lead for good.

It was a low-scoring affair between the Dulins Dodgers and the Atlanta Angels on Field 4. Ian Kennedy was a strong presence on the mound and at the plate as the Angels bested the Dodgers 2-1 in extra innings. He notched six strikeouts on the hill and crushed a momentum-shifting home run to straightaway center field in the fourth inning.

The Astros left the Houston Heat in the dust 11-6 after a six run explosion in the bottom of the fourth inning. East Cobb never relinquished the lead after Bryce Johnson’s two-run double in the Astros’ fourth inning outburst.

The Astros continued to look sharp in their next game as they clobbered the IBAHS Knights 7-1. Marietta native, James Tibbs, launched two home runs, including a three-run bomb in the fifth inning. Bradley Frye was dynamite on the hill, striking out nine IBAHS batters in just under five innings of work.

Despite being outhit eleven to six, the Upper Deck Cougars emerged victorious in their match-up against the Concord Cannons. Trey Rucker and Nick Suspenzi teamed up for six RBIs and a pair of dingers as the Cougars held on for the 9-6 win.

The Dirtbags-Black imposed their will on the Perfect Game Royals 11-0 in a short five inning contest. Four players went yard against the Royals’ pitchers. Mason Everhart’s fifth inning grand slam capped off an impressive game by the Dirtbags.

Ethan Wood was red-hot from the plate as the Indiana Baseball Club walloped the SBO Elite PR 15-6. Wood racked up six RBIs courtesy of an RBI single and two towering home runs. Four of his RBIs came by way of a second inning grand slam.

The Indiana Baseball Club nearly secured their second win of the day, but the West Georgia Warriors-Meigs stormed back from a three-run deficit to upend Indiana 5-4 in six innings. With their backs against the wall, the Warriors' Eli Runyan came up big with lead-off home run, igniting the improbable comeback.

The North Florida Gators had a wonderful day with big wins over the Home Plate Chilidogs-Kearns and Team Wilson. The Gators trailed the Chilidogs 3-0 entering the fifth inning, but they would respond with four runs of their own in the final two innings to steal the 4-3 victory. Hayden Davis completed North Florida’s comeback with a walk-off single, plating Justen Crews.

John Rechsteiner was relentless on the mound as he fanned ten batters in the Gators’ 5-1 triumph over Team Wilson. While Rechsteiner was dealing, Gregory Falck rallied the Gator’s offense with an RBI triple in the third inning and a two-run double in the fifth.

While their Home Plate counterparts struggled, the Home Plate Chilidogs-Carnazzo thrived against the Perfect Game Royals. Brent Tovar allowed one hit and zero runs in three solid innings on the mound. Jacob Rochester added a two-run bomb in the fifth inning as the Chilidogs ravaged the Royals 8-2.
