There was no back and forth to be had in the series finale as it was all Rebels, all the time as they took Sunday’s contest, and the crucial series 8-2. It’s more or less reiterating what occurred the first two games as Mississippi’s J.B. Woodman had a standout game in which he twice left the yard, capping off a weekend that should surely help his draft stock for this upcoming June.

What Ole Miss junior centerfielder J.B. Woodman did this weekend as a whole was nothing short of remarkable and it’s the type of performance you rarely see, especially in the setting of which this series took place. A known commodity since his days as a prep in Florida, Woodman has put together a solid junior campaign entering the weekend but he truly took his game to the next level this weekend showing very well on both sides of the ball on a regular basis.

After collecting a pair of doubles off of lefthander Jared Poché in the first game of the series before taking hard throwing righthander Alex Lange deep on Friday night, Woodman was at it again on Saturday as he twice left the yard and both went to the deepest part of the park. Woodman sports physical strength throughout his 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame yet remains loose with his actions both in the box and out in center and should be able to carry additional muscle mass upon entering pro ball without any effect on his overall game.

Digging in after a hard struck double off the bat of Tate Blackman, a reoccurring theme throughout the weekend, Woodman worked the count in his favor just as he’d done and was given the green light on a 3-0 count. With his incredibly short and fast hand path and power that lies in his barrel Woodman didn’t miss the 87 mph John Valek fastball that was located middle in and sent it deep to center, 401-feet to be exact according to TrackMan and registered an exit velocity of 100 mph off the barrel.

Facing an entirely different pitcher in hard throwing righthander Caleb Gilbert, the Ole Miss junior once again proven velocity wasn’t an issue as he took an elevated 94 mph fastball and once again deposited the ball over the center field fence. Oh, and on top of all that offense Woodman delivered yet another strike to home from shallow center though this time the Tigers wisely held the runner at third base.

For those who weren’t keeping track at home Woodman went 6-for-12 with two doubles, three home runs, eight RBI, five runs scored with three strikeouts and a walk. Add in the three outfield assists and that’s one heck of a weekend.

Freshman righthander James McArthur made the first SEC start of his career Saturday afternoon to follow up his midweek start the week prior which helped him garner the SEC Freshman of the Week honor. Entering the contest with a 5-0 record, McArthur threw well but was only able to last 3 1/3 innings as an ill-timed rain delay of over 45 minutes hit in the bottom of the second and sent both teams to their respective dugouts.
