Aaron Civale, rhp, Northeastern

Aaron Civale went undrafted out of a Connecticut high school back in 2013 and has spent the last three seasons at Northeastern fine tuning his abilities on the mound and has quietly, almost under the radar, put up one of the best seasons you’ll find throughout college baseball, coast to coast. He won’t necessarily beat you on pure stuff, but he’s very methodical with which of the four pitches he’s going to throw next, consistently mixing and playing mind games with the opposing hitter.

It makes sense that Civale is a master of his craft and shows near precision in executing his plan, after all he goes to a nationally renowned academic institution in Northeastern. And perhaps that’s part of the reason why he’s so seamlessly made the transition from closer to Friday night ace despite making just one total start in his two seasons prior. He made a name for himself last summer while on the Cape where he garnered All-Star honors, again working exclusively out of the bullpen.

But many of the characteristics that he’s became known for; the high level of pitchability, the outstanding command, the ability to stay off barrels, and so much more have transitioned as well as the Northeastern coaching staff could have hoped for and it’s very possible that Civale has exceeded those expectations. Listed at 6-foot-2, 215-pounds, the Connecticut native is built for a starting role at the next level as he’s broad shouldered with plenty of present, physical strength that’s proportioned well throughout, all of which is incorporated into his delivery.
