16u PG World Series Qualifier: Day 1 Notes | Day 2 Notes

Ryan Skelly (2021 Tampa, Fla.) is another talented arm that Hit Factory Pro runs out. He has a projectable 6-foot-1 frame, is athletic and has a high movement and up-tempo delivery. He is quick through balance and his long levers are active throughout. It created deception and uncomfortable at-bats for the hitters. He is still refining the delivery and had some release point issues at times. The righthanded pitcher recorded six strikeouts in his 2 1/3 innings, running his fastball up to 88. Skelly mixed a curveball that averaged 69 mph and shows promise when he learns to consistently land it for strikes.

Billy “BJ” Graham (2021 Thonotosassa, Fla.) is a powerfully built 5-foot-11, 205-pound prospect. He has present core strength that he uses to turn tight during his swing. It leads to a whippy barrel that is heavy through the zone from the left side of the plate. His hand strength is unique and it allows him the ability to flick his barrel late and still hit a ball hard through the infield. When Graham learns to transfer his weight consistently during at bats the power is going to come very quickly. This bat needs to be followed vey closely.

Sanchez Sands (2020 Nassau, NW) looks the part with boxed shoulders and a high waist. He has twitch throughout his body and you can see a snap with his wrists through contact. He went 2-for-3 Saturday morning and scored a run for the Bahamas Spartans. Defensively he takes good angles to balls, shows soft hands and makes plays coming in on groundballs look especially easy. He is a smooth athlete and exhibits overall versatility in his game.

Fernando Hernandez (2022 Orlando, Fla.) is a physical young backstop at 6-foot and 180-pounds. He is well proportioned with a stocky, barrel-chested frame with well above average strength for his age. He showed above average bat speed and swung with intent in Saturday morning’s game for Action Force Baseball. Defensively, he is comfortable in his set up with good anticipation skills and strong wrists. He has arm strength and carry on his throws, the accuracy will get better as he has consistent direction with his footwork. He looks the part of a high-end, power arm-power bat catcher as he gets more reps. He was 1-for-1 with three runs, two walks and a hit by pitch during the contest.

Chandler Dorsey (2022 Lakeland, Fla.) is an exciting young righthanded pitching prospect to follow. He has a textbook young pitcher’s frame to build on at 6-foot-3 with long limbs that already have functionality. He had an easy delivery that he repeated well, full arm circle and a clean and consistent release. He has slight cross-fire that adds deception with occasional cut to his fastball. He showed feel for the strikes zone and the ball got on hitters quickly. He worked mostly to the glove side with two pitches, 81-83/84 with his fastball and 66-69 with an 11-to-5 curveball. It was an effortless outing and he maintained his velocity. Dorsey struck out four while not allowing a walk in his three innings of work for Ostingers Baseball Academy 2022.

Colby Shelton (2022 Lithia, Fla.) had a nice day of OBA 2022. He is a sure-handed shortstop that has a very simple approach fielding the baseball. He is balanced on movement plays with a consistent transfer and enough arm to make all the throws. Offensively, the lefthanded hitter, has a quick swing with strength through contact. He has very good bat-to-ball skills and controls the zone well for his age. He hit a hard, line drive single for an RBI on Saturday and showed exciting ability to be a middle-of-the-order type bat that can stay at shortstop.

Mason Jantomaso (2022 Winter Haven, Fla.) is a complete throwback behind the plate. He has a stocky frame and you could tell how much he enjoyed being behind the plate. He had quick feet and fast transfer, showing a 2.15 pop tome to throw out a runner out at second base. He contributed three hits from the cleanup spot including a long double over the right fielder’s head. He stays compact throughout his process and showed great pitch recognition Saturday. He is a tough kid with leadership skills who will be fun to watch develop.

Power Baseball 2021’s shortstop Damian Goulart (2021, Orlando, Fla.) plays with a lot of confidence. Standing at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, he is built like a corner infielder, but has hands of a middle infielder. Goulart has quick hands at the plate and great discipline, which makes him a very tough out. Standing tall in the righthanded batter’s box he looks very strong, and it shows as he has pop to all fields. Goulart, who is uncommitted, is going to continue to play hard all summer and he is going to be fun to follow.

Sebastian Ragot (2021, Orlando, Fla.) the third baseman for Orlando Lookouts Baseball Club looks strong at the plate. He went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a ball that was smoked through the left side. Ragot also made a diving play down the line and throwing a strike across the diamond to get the hitter out. Ragot, at 5-foot-10, is very athletic which allows him to make great plays on defense. Ragot has very strong legs and good pop to his pull side.

Another Orlando Lookouts player that shined was righthander Jose Olmeda (2021, Orlando, Fla.). Olmeda came out of the ‘pen throwing three innings and only allowing two hits. He ran his fastball up to 84 mph and had a lot of confidence standing on top of the mound.

Tyler Lambert (2022, Bonita Springs, Fla.) looks confident standing in the batter’s box, going 2-for-3 and hitting line drives consistently. Lambert knows what pitches he is looking for and does damage to them. He is looking to improve his strength and drive balls into the gaps over the summer.

The center fielder for the Rays RBI, Demario Williams (2021, Plant City, Fla.), showed some serious speed both offensively and defensively. He covers a lot of ground in center field coasting to fly balls. Williams also makes his presence known on the basepaths by keeping his feet active and being a threat to steal a base at anytime. Williams went 1-for-2 with double and a walk.
