Next Level Scorpions Ride 2 Arms to Shutout
Published: Saturday, September 19, 2009
At the 4:30 PM game against the Tampa Bay Angels, the Next Level Scorpions got strong outings from two righthanded pitchers who are Division I college prospects. They shut out the Angels on the way to a 3-0 win.
Umatilla (Fl.) High's David Lucroy started and got the win, throwing mid-80s with a low-70s curve. Lucroy's arm looks very well. It's loose and long and his delivery is fairly compact. There's potential to throw harder for the 6-1, 190 righty. Lucroy threw five innings giving up no runs, five hits, and two walks. Lucroy struck out six and just showed a feel for pitching.
Paul Stelling, from Cypress Creek High School in Orlando, pitched the last two innings throwing 82-85 MPH and showing good pitchability himself. He's a 6-1, 185 righty.
