Northeast Showcases are Popular Spots on Circuit

Jim Ecker

How popular are the Northeast Top and Underclass Showcases with high school baseball players? Let us count the ways.

A total of 1,548 players have attended the Northeast Top Showcase since it began in 2001. Another 631 players have attended the Northeast Underclass Showcase since it started in 2003, putting the total at 2,179 players since the Northeast Showcases became a regular stop on the Perfect Game circuit.

We’re coming back for more.

The Northeast Underclass Showcase will be held this Aug. 6-8 at Rotary Field in South Windsor, Conn., and the Northeast Top Showcase will be held Aug. 13-15 at Muzzy Field in Bristol, Conn. The Underclass Showcase is intended for players who will graduate high school in 2012, 2013 and 2014, while the Top Showcase is for players who will graduate in 2011.

You may request an invitation to these premier showcases now. Simply return to the Home Page for www.PerfectGame.org and click on “Showcases” in the upper left-hand corner. Scroll to the appropriate Showcase on the list and click “Request an Invite.” It’s that easy.

Hundreds of college coaches and major league scouts attend the Northeast Showcases every year, and these events have produced hundreds of Division I players and numerous first-round draft picks such as Jeff Allison (Marlins), Matt Antonelli (Padres), Chris Lambert (Cardinals), Chris Lubanski (Royals), Adam Ottavino (Cardinals), Sean Doolittle (A’s), Jay Rainville (Twins), Mark Rogers (Brewers) and Michael Belfiore (Diamondbacks).

The Northeast Showcases are very popular with players in the Northeast part of the country, of course, but these Showcases have drawn players from 25 states, Venezuela, Canada and the Virgin Islands. These players have proceeded to play college baseball in the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-10, Ivy League, Notre Dame, Big 12 and many other leagues.

Who’s next?
