Iowa Fall League Roundup

    

Blake Seehusen (Waverly-Shell Rock, 2011) drove in Zach Lashbrook (W-SR, 2011) and Maxwell Williams (Dike-New Hartford, 2011) in the top of the second inning, and Lashbrook drove in a run in a two-run fifth to lead PG Iowa Orange past PG Iowa Purple, 4-2, in Iowa Fall Wood Bat Scout League play Aug. 21 at Cedar Rapids Washington High School.

Purple jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when 1-2 hitters Ryan Meaney (Cedar Rapids, 2013) and Andrew Sodawasser (Cedar Rapids Xavier, 2012) reached base and came around to score after Tyler Hines (Xavier, 2013) and Josh Tipton (Xavier, 2012) also reached.

 

PG Iowa Steel 4, PG Iowa Navy 1

Terrell Sykes (Cedar Rapids Kennedy, 2011), Nick Day (Solon, 2011), Bailey Hollingsworth (C.R. Jefferson, 2011) and Ty Mougin (C.R. Prairie, 2013) all drove in runs in a four-run fourth to pace Steel to the win Aug. 21.

David Yancey (C.R. Kennedy, 2011), Nathan Greve (Linn-Mar, 2013), Michael Rooney (C.R. Jefferson, 2011) and Sykes all scored in the inning.

Dustin Spaw (C.R. Prairie, 2011) threw three hitless, scoreless innings with three strikeouts for Steel.

Taylor Field (Newton, 2013) knocked in Ryan Siems (Iowa City West, 2012) in the top of the fifth to account for Navy's only run.

 

PG Iowa Black 17, PG Iowa Navy 6

Black's first five batters all reached and scored in the top of the first inning, it scored six more times in the fourth and four more times in the fifth en route to the rout Aug. 21.

Sam Carmoney (SE Polk, 2011), Ryan Curtis (SE Polk, 2013) and Brock Daniels (SE Polk, 2012) all walked to start the game and came around to score on singles from T.J. Foster (Martensdale-St. Mary's, 2012), Zachary Kockler (SE Polk, 2011), Garrett Macumber (Winterset, 2011) and Jake Nauman (Martensdale-St. Mary's, 2012). Foster and Kockler also scored in the five-run first.

Macumber, Colt Meinke (SE Polk, 2011), Nauman, Philip Valez (SE Polk, 2013), Robert Walker (Martensdale-St. Mary's, 2012) and Ethan Westphal (Martensdale-St. Mary's, 2011) all scored in the fourth on a combination of walks and singles. Daniels, Kockler, Macumber and Nauman all crossed again in the fifth and Black completed its scoring in the sixth when Robert Walker smacked an RBI single to score David Walker.

Ryan Siems (I.C. West, 2012), Taylor Field (Newton, 2013), Max Kober (West Branch, 2013) and Kolbi Kohl (Lisbon, 2012) all drove in runs in Navy's five-run fifth inning.

 

PG Iowa Steel 7, PG Iowa Black 2

Dakota Freese (Cedar Rapids Washington, 2011) struck out eight in four hitless innings and Colby Brecht (C.R. Xavier, 2011) and Nick Day (Solon, 2011) each scored twice to pace Steel to its second win of the day.

Freese struck out the last five batters he faced.

Steel scored two runs in the third, two in the fifth and three in the sixth to back Freese's effort. Freese also singled, drove in a run and scored in the sixth.

Black scored its only two runs in the seventh, including an RBI single from Sam Carmoney (SE Polk, 2011).

 

PG Iowa Navy 4, PG Iowa Black 1

Mike Troendle (Cedar Rapids Washington, 2011) smacked a two-run triple in the top of the seventh to break a 1-1 tie, then scored himself when Dan White (C.R. Washington, 2011) followed with a single to lead Navy Aug. 22.

Navy took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Ryan Siems (Iowa City West, 2012) singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single from Jordan Bahl (Lisbon, 2012). Black tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Sam Carmoney (SE Polk, 2011) led off with a double and eventually scored.

Troendle's triple with one out in the seventh scored Beau Rolland (Mount Vernon, 2011) and Jacob Scienszinski (Mount Vernon, 2011), who reached on a hit-by-pitch and a walk, respectively.

 

PG Iowa Steel 6, PG Iowa Black 2

David Yancey (Cedar Rapids Kennedy, 2011) and Nathan Greve (Linn-Mar, 2013) combined for five one-hit innings and Nick Day (Solon, 2011) smacked a two-run single in the seventh inning to break up a close game Aug. 22.

Steel bolted to a 2-0 lead in the second when Dakota Freese (C.R. Washington, 2011) and Tyler Butz (C.R. Prairie, 2013) both scored, and went up 3-0 when Day swatted a solo home run in the fourth. Black moved within 3-2 when Sam Carmoney (SE Polk, 2011) and Ryan Curtis (SE Polk, 2013) each drove in runs, but Steel put it away with its three-run seventh.

 

PG Iowa Steel 10, PG Iowa Navy 3

Steel moved to 4-0 after one weekend of play with the convincing win over Navy on Aug. 22.

Brennan Hammer (Cedar Rapids Prairie, 2013) singled, doubled and scored twice to lead Steel, which had nine different players cross the plate. Steel scored a single run in the second on consecutive two-out singles from Colby Brecht (C.R. Xavier, 2011), David Yancey (C.R. Kennedy, 2011) and Nathan Greve (Linn-Mar, 2013).

It added three runs in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth, with Ty Mougin (C.R. Prairie, 2013) coming up with a two-run single in the fifth.

Navy scored a pair of runs in the second when Calvin Kragenbrink (Mount Vernon, 2013) and Jacob Scienszinski (Mount Vernon, 2011) both crossed in front of consecutive singles from Mike Troendle (C.R. Washington, 2011), Dan White (C.R. Washington, 2011) and Kellen Yoder (Iowa City West, 2012).

 

PG Iowa White 4, PG Iowa Orange 2

Austin Benson (Cedar Rapids Kennedy, 2011) tripled and Devon Jacobus (C.R. Kennedy, 2012) singled during a four-run fifth inning to lead White to the win Aug. 22.

Jack Hoffmann (Dubuque Wahlert, 2011), Aaron Hundt (MFL Mar Mac, 2012), Jacobus and Tony Maiers (C.R. Kennedy, 2013) all scored in the fifth for White.

Benson pitched five shutout innings, allowing three hits with five strikeouts.

Orange scored both its runs on a two-run double from Zach Lashbrook (Waverly-Shell Rock, 2011), which plated Devin Guerrero (North Scott, 2012) and Brock Brade (North Scott, 2012).

 

PG Iowa Orange 7, PG Iowa White 2

Tanner McClenahan (Keota, 2011) led the game off with a single and came around to score on a Brock Brade (North Scott, 2012) double and Orange never trailed in earning the double-header split.

Collin Telsrow (Durant, 2011), tripled and scored in a two-run second for Orange, and Andrew Holden (Waverly-Shell Rock, 2011) had an RBI double and Eric Schenck-Joblinske (Dike-New Hartford, 2011) an RBI triple in a three-run third.

White scored an unearned run in the first and another run in the fourth when A.J. Reed came around to score on an RBI double from Jared Staton (C.R. Kennedy, 2013).


PG Iowa Red 5, PG Iowa Maroon 0

Jake Stolley and Justin Wyant combined to pitch a two-hit shutout as Red blanked Maroon.

Stolley (Linn-Mar, 2012) struck out six batters and allowed two hits in three innings. Wyant (Linn-Mar, 2013) fanned four batters and did not allow any hits during his three innings on the mound.

Jacob Dilks (Mt. Pleasant, 2013) scored two runs for Red. Jack Strellner (Linn-Mar, 2013), Brady Hanna (Pleasant Valley, 2012) and Colton Janssen (Starmont, 2014) also scored for Red.

 

PG Iowa Maroon 8,  PG Iowa Red 7

Austin Fischer pitched three strong innings and Matthew Johnson collected two hits as Maroon trimmed Red in the second game of their doubleheader.

Fischer (Ankeny, 2011) struck out four batters, allowed only one hit and walked one. His fastball reached 83 mph.

Johnson (Ankeny, 2013) collected a single, double and a walk in three at-bats.

 

PG Iowa Columbia, 16, PG Iowa White 5

Trevar Seibert socked a triple and a three-run homer as Columbia defeated White in the first game of their twin-bill at Linn-Mar.

John Bloom (East Marshall, 2012) and Jared Riemenschneider (West Marshall, 2013) had two hits apiece for Columbia. Zach Sims (West Des Moines Valley, 2011) scored three runs. Riemenschneider and Eli Egger (Waukee, 2011) scored twice.

Derrick Winter (Waukee, 2011) flashed an 83 mph fastball for Columbia and Bloom hit 80 on the radar gun. Jack Hoffman (Dubuque Wahlert, 2011) threw 82 mph fastballs for the White team.

PG Iowa Columbia 1, PG Iowa White 1

Columbia and White battled to a tie in the second game of their double-header as the pitchers held sway.

Aaron Hundt (MFL Mar Mac, 2012) pitched three scoreless innings for White, allowing only one hit with three strikeouts. Casey Brown (Linn-Mar, 2012) was touched for only one run in three innings for White, and Jared Staton (Cedar Rapids Kennedy, 2013) finished the mound chores for White with a scoreless frame.

Ben Miller (Valley, 2013) pitched the first three innings for Columbia. He surrendered one run on four hits and fanned two batters. Jared Riemenschneider (West Marshall, 2013) and John Bloom (East Marshall, 2012) tossed two scoreless innings apiece for Columbia.

Jack Hoffman (Dubuque Wahlert, 2011) went 2-for-2 with a double for White.

 

PG Iowa Maroon 5, PG Iowa Purple 3

Matthew Johnson (Ankeny, 2013) walked twice and scored two runs as Maroon topped Purple.

Tyler Engelhardt (Ankeny, 2012) drove in a run with a triple and then scored himself on a sacrifice fly for Maroon.

Dynas Doud (Dallas Center-Grimes, 2012) hit 80 mph on the radar gun for Maroon.

 

PG Iowa Maroon 17, PG Iowa Purple 6

Blake Marchant (Indianola, 2011), Ryan Kirgan (Ankeny, 2011) and Nicholas Anderson (Ankeny, 2011) all socked triples as Maroon downed Purple.

Kirgan, Anderson and Austin Vaske (Bishop Garrigan, 2012) had two hits apiece for Ankeny and Kirgan drove in two runs.

Zach Brown (Xavier, 2013) went 2-for-2 with a double for Purple. Alex Larsen walked twice and scored both times.      

Anderson pitched four strong innings for Maroon with eight strikeouts.

 

PG Iowa Columbia 6, PG Iowa Red 1

Tyler Evans (Ottumwa, 2011) and Zach Sims (West Des Moines Valley, 2011) collected two hits apiece as Columbia defeated Red. Zach Throckmorton (Ottumwa, 2011) and Trevar Seibert (West Des Moines Valley, 2011) had doubles.

Blake Wilson (Pleasant Valley, 2011) and Tyler Votroubek (Cedar Rapids Prairie, 2013) hit triples for Red. Mitch Peters (Cedar Rapids Prairie, 2013) hit a double.


PG Iowa Red 9, PG Iowa Columbia 2

Jake Stolley (Linn-Mar, 2012) went 2-for-3 with a triple, RBI and two runs scored as Red topped Columbia. Tyler Votroubek (Cedar Rapids Prairie, 2013) was 2-for-2 with a triple and run scored. Jacob Dilks (Mt. Pleasant, 2013) went 2-for-2 and scored a run.

Votroubek and Colton Janssen (Starmont, 2014) both pitched three scoreless innings for Red.
