The 2010 West Uncommitted Showcase is scheduled for this
weekend (Nov. 6-7) at the Fitch Park Cubs Spring Training facility in Mesa,
Ariz. The event is being held in conjunction with the National Underclass
Showcase Session I, also being held at Fitch Park.
The West Uncommitted Showcase is designed primarily for high
school seniors who have not yet committed to a college. It draws players and
college coaches from all across the country.
As of early this week, players from nine states – Oklahoma,
Georgia, Missouri, California, Texas, Colorado, Illinois, Washington and Utah –
had been invited to perform at the West Uncommitted Showcase.
The entrants include catcher Cam Cain from Hahira, Ga., who
was in the graduating class of 2009. One of the top prospects invited is
right-hander Alex Gebert (2011, Grapevine, Texas) who is ranked nationally in
the top 1,000 of his class and played this past summer for the DBAT Mustangs.
Six players who attended the 2009 West Uncommitted Showcase
eventually made college commitments.
That number was down slightly from the nine players who
attended in 2008 and later committed to colleges. Among those players was
right-hander Tyler Wagner (2009, Henderson, Nev.), who committed to Utah.
Players can still receive an invitation to the West Uncommitted
Showcase. Go to www.perfectgame.org,
