Top ranked Edison (Huntington Beach, CA) made a strong statement in their playoff opener, crushing Santiago 11-0 with a no-hitter from LHP Henry Owens. The road will get tougher as the bracket sets up to potentially face three consecutive teams ranked in the national top 50 (#30 Lakewood, #17 JSerra, #15 Mater Dei) if they get past Orange Lutheran this afternoon. If the Chargers can win the toughest tournament in Southern California they will be well deserving of the final #1 ranking.

Several teams won state championships this week, including: #7 Bishop Gorman (NV), #13 Bishop Verot (FL), #21 St. James (SC), #26 West Boca (FL), #45 Sumrall (MS) and #48 Huntsville (AL).

There will be several intriguing postseason matchups between ranked teams this week. #9 Ft. Bend Clements takes on #50 SB Memorial in a best of three Reginoal semi-final series in Texas 5A action. But the biggest matchup will be this afternoons Florida 4A state championship matchup when #2 Archbishop McCarthy takes on #18 Tampa Jesuit and their ace Lance McCullers (#1 ranked player in class of 2012).

Remaining undefeateds include: #5 Don Bosco Prep (NJ), #27 St. Louis Uni (MO), #28 Maize (KS) and #42 South County (VA).

New additions this week: #40 Buchanan (CA), #42 South County (VA), #47 Poly Prep (NY), #48 Huntsville (AL) and #50 SB Memorial (TX).
