Traditional Cape Doormat Hyannis Zooms To Top of Standings, Polls
PG CrossChecker has unveiled its first ranking of summer teams for the 2011 season. Not surprisingly, the team sitting at the top of the weekly ranking is from the powerful Cape Cod League, widely acknowledged as the nation’s premier summer-college league.

What is surprising, though, is the Cape League team making all the noise early in the 2011 season. It is none other than the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, who finished last in that league in each of the last two seasons and hasn’t earned a league playoff berth since 2004.

The Harbor Hawks jumped out to a 9-2 start this season, and already are within sight of last year’s total of just 14 wins. With a team 2.05 ERA, Hyannis has gotten excellent pitching to date, led by rising junior righthanders Dylan Floro (2-0, 0.00) of Cal State Fullerton and Jon Moscot (1-0, 0.00) of Pepperdine.
PG CrossChecker’s ranking of summer league clubs are compiled in conjunction with the summer-league website, CollegeSummerBaseball.net. The nation’s top 25 summer-league teams will be ranked each week, generally on Tuesday. An emphasis is placed on the league’s competitive level, the prospective professional-quality talent on each club, a team’s won-loss record and its league dominance in arriving at the rankings. Each club must have at least a .500 record to be eligible.
