Seven-time MLB All-Star and certain future Hall of Fame closer Trevor Hoffman was honored by the San Diego Padres in a pre-game ceremony at PETCO Park on Sunday, Aug. 21. Hoffman’s “No. 51” Padres’ jersey was retired, and a complete recap of all of the day’s festivities was eloquently recorded in this fine piece by mlb.com writer Tom Singer.

Just one week before the Padres honored Hoffman, he also stepped out on the PETCO Park field as part of his official duties as the Honorary Chairman of the Perfect Game All-American Classic presented by Rawlings. Hoffman was a big part of many of the Perfect Game All-American Classic weekend’s activities, including presenting the Jackie Robinson Player of the Year Award to Lance McCullers on the night of Aug. 13 and the Classic’s Most Valuable Player Award to Joey Gallo on the night of the Aug. 14.

It’s really a perfect fit,” Hoffman said of his involvement with the Classic. “Perfect Game, perfect fit.”
