The 2011 Perfect Game tournament schedule wrapped-up in late October with the successful conclusion of the WWBA Underclass World Championship in Fort Myers, Fla., and the WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Fla.

Marucci Elite, a Baton Rouge-based powerhouse organization, made history by becoming the first program to win both of the prestigious tournaments in the same year. It was also Marucci Elite’s second straight WWBA Underclass World Championship title.

With those tournaments in the rearview mirror, Perfect Game’s attention is now directed toward four showcase events in California and Arizona to be held the first two weekends in November and the first weekend in December.

The 9th annual PG California Underclass Showcase will be held Nov. 5-6 at Mt. San Antonio College’s Mazmanian Field in Walnut, Calif., about 25 miles east of Los Angeles. It will be followed by the PG Northern California Showcase Nov. 12-13 at Delta College iin Stockton, Calif.

Two events – the PG National Underclass Showcase Session 1 and the PG West Uncommitted Showcase will be held simultaneously Dec. 3-4 at the Camelback Ranch complex in Phoenix. Camelback Ranch is the spring training home of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox.

The PG California Underclass Showcase was traditionally a January event but was moved up to early November at the request of college coaches. The event has already established a rich history, and counts more than 20 Perfect Game All-Americans and 15 first round MLB draft selections among its alumni.

Cal Underclass graduates Bryan Anderson (2003), Chris Parmelee (2005), Addison Reed (2006) and Freddie Freeman (2004, ’06) made it to the big leagues.

The PG NorCal Showcase invites players who are currently seniors, juniors and sophomores in high school and is identified as the top showcase for prospects from Northern California, Northwest Nevada, Southern Oregon and Idaho.

The PG National Underclass Showcase was expanded in 2007 and became a series of three showcases. Session 1 is designed to attract and showcase the top underclass prospects from the western part of the country. The PG National Underclass Showcase-Main Event is Dec. 28-30 in Fort Myers, Fla., and the PG National Underclass Showcase Session 3 is Jan. 7-8, also in Fort Myers.

The 8th annual Perfect Game West Uncommitted Showcase is designed to bring in high school seniors who have so far been overlooked in the recruiting process. Just last year alone, seven players who entered the event uncommitted ended up with commitments, including SS Grant Davis (Newport Beach, Calif.) to Arizona State, OF Jordan Dunatov (Scottsdale, Ariz.) to Oregon State and RHP Alex Gebert (Grapevine, Texas) to Oklahoma.

Dunatov never did land in Corvallis, however. He signed professionally after being selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 14th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
