You probably noticed that the Perfect Game website has enjoyed a facelift in the recent weeks, as we officially adopted our popular interlocking 'PG' logo as our official branding mark. That change is also reflected in the items currently on sale in the newly opened PG Online Store.
There are more than just cosmetic changes on the schedule as we look forward to the 2012 calendar year, and we intend to kick the New Year off with a bang as we ramp up our PG Crosschecker original content.
First up is the inclusion of minor league coverage.
David Rawnsley, Todd Gold and myself will be dissecting each of the 30 big-league team's top 10 prospects, providing an overview of the system and their most recent draft efforts. Covering minor league prospects is something we have wanted to do for a very long time with an interest in following the careers of all of the players we have crossed paths with.
The team prospect reports will be released based on the 2012 raw draft order, with the first of those individual team reports, the Houston Astros, scheduled for Monday, January 2. Three teams will be covered each week through March 9.
Starting two weeks later on Monday, January 16 we will start with our preseason draft coverage.
On that day we will release the first of 100 detailed individual player prospect reports, expanding our '50 in 50' theme from last spring. One scouting report will be released per day, every day, Monday through Friday, leading up until the 2012 MLB Draft.
PG Crosschecker Director Allan Simpson, with an incredible amount of feedback from members of the scouting community as well as the Perfect Game staff, provides our unrivaled top prospect lists, going 500 deep for the 2012 draft class to complement our early draft preview. He will also look ahead to the top prospects for 2013 and 2014, and will provide revised state-by-state lists for each of those three classes.
Our college preseason coverage will be tied into our draft coverage, with detailed lists on the top prospects from the D1, D2, D3, JUCO and NAIA levels coming the week after the overall draft-eligible lists.
In addition to revised versions of the top prospect lists, the state-by-state previews will start to be unveiled in March as our draft coverage takes another step up leading up to draft day itself.
Once the preseason top prospect lists are unveiled in mid-January, we will turn our attention to the preseason college conference previews starting the week of January 30. Kendall Rogers and Allan Simpson will weigh in with their thoughts on each conference's top teams and prospects, while also providing a breakdown of the top 100 teams in the nation in addition to Rogers' unique positional power rankings.
Rogers will continue to thoroughly cover the college game the entire season, from the beginning of the season on Friday, February 17 through the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, and beyond.
In the month of February, Ben Collman and Todd Gold will release our high school preseason coverage, with a thorough breakdown of the top teams across the nation and by the individual regions. The top 50 teams in the nation will be identified, including detailed reports on the top 10 teams. The top players and the top tools region-by-region will also be profiled, as well as providing in-depth coverage of the nation's top high school matchups with the National Game of the Week.
And similar to last year, those rankings will continue to be updated throughout the spring leading up to the summer showcase and tournament season.
Throughout the entire process, Jeff Dahn will also be a key part of all of this coverage, providing his unique player feature stories on some of the top collegiate and high school players from across the nation.
