First-Step Mechanics for Stealing Second Base

Keep body relaxed & under control.

•  Stay low and explode forward & upward in straight line towards second base, gaining as much ground as possible.

•  First step should create 45-degree forward body-lean (straight line thru body from head to ankle), allowing glutes to apply force backward & downward against ground behind body.

•  Use full arm swing and drive elbows to synchronize arms & legs.

•  Maintain forward lean with head down for 10-15 yards.
