JUPITER, Fla. -- We’re one step closer to perhaps crowning a brand new champion at the PG WWBA World Championship.

As the action continued Saturday afternoon at the Roger Dean Complex, Virginia 2013 commitments Austin Nicely and Alec Bettinger performed at a high level on the mound, while Georgia 2013 commitment Doug Norman flashed an impressive breaking ball.

We also have observations on plenty of other top prospects, including Kerman, Calif. (HS) righthanded pitcher, Carlos Salazar, a big-time rising power arm and Fresno State commit.

In addition to plenty of observations on top prospects, there’s also plenty of college baseball scoop on programs such as Michigan, Central Florida and Clemson.

JUPITER OBSERVATIONS

* It hasn’t come easy at times here in Jupiter, but the Houston Banditos continue to take care of business. In Houston’s win on Saturday, Texas A&M 2013 commitment and righthanded pitcher Mark Ecker performed at a high level. Ecker, who can get his fastball up to 91-92, primarily sat 87-89 with the pitch in this contest. Ecker, who has a good frame, most impressed me with a biting 71-73 curveball, which was incredibly difficult on lefthanded hitters … TCU 2013 commitment and talented third baseman Walker Pennington also was impressive. Pennington, who has a nice 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame, made some tremendous defensive plays.
