Andrew Thurman is a prime example of why scouts develop a scouting report on the basis of multiple viewings over a long period of time. One outing doesn’t always cut it when it comes to evaluating a starting pitcher, and in Thurman’s case you’d come away with two very different opinions if you scouted him early last summer as opposed to later in the summer. Also, by showing your best stuff over 120 innings into a combined spring and summer season, you’re also saying a lot about future durability as a professional starting pitcher. And, that was story of the UC Irvine right-hander in the summer of 2012 – the more he pitched the more he impressed.
