Series of the week: FSU at Virginia

Kendall Rogers

Top-ranked North Carolina leads the Atlantic Coast Conference by a couple of games heading toward the final month of the regular season, but Florida State and Virginia aren't too far behind in the pecking order, both sitting at 13-5 in the ACC.

Interestingly, both the Seminoles and Cavaliers have been pleasant surprises this season. The Seminoles entered the season with question marks in several areas, and even without shortstop Justin Gonzalez and right-handed pitcher Mike Compton, Mike Martin's club has found ways to win.

The Cavaliers are an even bigger surprise. Certainly not expected to compete for a national seed entering the spring, the Cavaliers, who had several holes to fill at the plate and on the mound, have shown a lot of balance with a good pitching staff and offense with a batting average over .300.

As our PG National Series of the Week breakdown series continues, we take an inside look at how the teams matchup from an offensive, starting pitching, bullpen and defensive standpoint entering the weekend, while also giving fans scouting reports on several players in the process. A look at the top MLB draft prospects to follow is included.

No. 6 Florida State (31-6, 13-5) at No. 7 Virginia (32-6, 13-5)
