TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Virginia has the look of a team setting the stage for something special.
The Cavaliers haven't overwhelmed many teams so far this spring, but after beating Florida State 5-3 on Friday, Brian O'Connor's club improved to 36-7 overall, 17-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
From the outside, some observers look at the Cavaliers like this: Virginia obviously is a very good team, but with such a dominant overall record, many continue to wonder if this will be classic case of a team compiling such an impressive regular season record, they flounder in the postseason.
I don't view the Cavaliers like that.
As we detailed the Cavaliers in our weekend preview on Thursday, a few things stuck out to me. For instance, the Cavaliers haven't scored a lot of runs in their ACC weekend series, hence they're not just rolling teams every weekend. Second, the Cavaliers have played several close games, and have been victorious in most of them. When it comes to the postseason, there's no substitute for playing, and winning, close contests.
