Baseball's Top Pre-draft

“The Top Predraft Workout in Baseball”

This year’ National Predraft should be the best one ever. Several very highly ranked draft prospects have committed to attend. These top players are from all parts of the USA, Canada and Latin America. The final rosters will not be released until just before the event takes place. Some top prospects can not commit until the final week due to high school or college schedules. Scouts can call Perfect Game at 319-298-2923 or email pgjerry@qwest for confirmed and non confirmed player information.

The Predraft was the very first Showcase ever run by Perfect Game. Over the year’s it has produced a very large number of high draft picks and many top college players. Perhaps the most interesting thing is the large number of fairly unknown prospects that have come out of the National Predraft. Players like Nathan Panther (IA) who has gone on to become a top prospect in the Indians organization. Who could forget Carl Crawford (TX) from a few years ago. Crawford is already a Major League “star caliber” player. Or Wes Obermueller (IA) who is already a Big League pitcher. Then there are those that went on to top college programs and have become potential high picks. Thomas Diamond (LA), Wade Townsend (TX), Jeff Clement (IA), Matt Macri (IA), Jason Jarimillo (WI) are just a few who went the college route. If Albert Pujols (KS), who was invited, had attended, it’s safe to assume he would have gone earlier in the draft.

There are too many current professional and college stars to list here, but all 30 MLB clubs are well aware of the PG National Predraft and the talent that has participated. Each May, the highest level scouts and front office staffs of most every MLB club travel to Cedar Rapids, IA. To get a good and often “last” look at the talent on display. Last year over 100 high level MLB scouts were in attendance. Of course, there are several College Coaches and Agents on hand as well.

The event will take place May 18th at the beautiful new Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, IA. Many Predraft players have returned to play at the stadium during their pro careers. It is the Midwest League home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Angels). The stadium is located across the street from Perfect Game USA Headquarters and Indoor Facility. The Predraft will start with the 60 yard sprint at 10:00 AM. All fans are welcome to attend and there’s no charge for admission. Position players will run the 60, field and throw from their position, take BP and run home to first. Then they will play a live game that will last until all pitchers have thrown. (14-15 innings) Pitchers will throw in the games.
