Christian Funk
1B - 2014 - Fresno, CA
Oklahoma State
Funk was definitely one of the top athletes and most versatile athletes at the event, receiving top prospect grades both in the outfield and infield defensively and throwing up to 87 mph from the mound. He has a long, loose swing with good bat speed and projectable power.
Justin Wylie
OF - 2014 - Chandler, AZ
Arizona
The 5-11/165 Wylie put on a strong performance in all aspects of the showcase, taking a very strong batting practice that included surprising power, standing out in the middle infield with his overall actions and quick release, running a 6.8 sixty and playing well in the games. He’s a good all around player.
Austin Bernard
MIF - 2014 - Valley Center, CA
Pepperdine
Bernard is listed as a primary second baseman but his arm strength and game actions indicated that he has the ability to play shortstop at the next level based on this look. He has a very aggressive right handed swing with power.
Octavio Lara Jr
RHP - 2014 - Bellflower, CA
Cal State Dominguez Hills/Central Arizona CC
Lara was the showcases hardest thrower, topping out at 88 mph and consistently pitching in the 86-88 mph range for the first couple of innings. He showed a full array of secondary pitches, including a 75 mph slurve that was very effective for him later in his outing. Lara is a strong athlete at 6-2/210 and showed nice hitting tools in BP too.
Chase Beal
RHP - 2014 - Queen Creek, AZ
New Mexico/Yavapai College
Beal gets your attention right away with his strong, well-proportioned 6-6/210 build and keeps it with a mid-80’s fastball and hard spinning mid-70’s curveball. The Arizona native topped out at 90 mph at the PG 17U World Series in July.
Lucas Halstead
C - 2014 - Alamo, CA
Pacific
The 6-3/225 Halstead stands out on the field with his size and strength and plays with lots of energy as well. He put on a big power display in batting practice, hitting balls out to all fields, and will improve in games when he learns to get better direction to contact.
Cheynne Giles
OF - 2014 - San Diego, CA
California Lutheran University
Giles has a nicely projectable 6-1/170 build with some wiry present strength. He looks to have centerfield athleticism and tools on defense, including 6.8 speed and a strong arm, and swings the bat well from the right side.
Max Green
LHP - 2014 - Rolling Hills Estate, CA
Pepperdine
Green is a live bodied 6-1/160 southpaw who threw 91 mph from the outfield and run a sub-7.0 sixty. He topped out at 84 mph on the mound but has lots more in his arm with some delivery adjustments.
Corbin Lilledahl
OF - 2014 - Los Banos, CA
Uncommitted
Lilledahl is very slender at 6-3/160 but he has quick strong wrists and generates some whippy bat speed in his left handed swing and squares the ball up consistently. He also showed solid outfield arm strength and ran a 6.9 sixty.
Cameron Aufderheide
RHP - 2014 - Rancho Santa Margarita, CA
Uncommitted
The 6-3/180 Aufderheide had the best three-pitch combination of any pitcher at the showcase and did it from a deceptive whippy mid to low ¾’s release point. His fastball topped out at 84 mph with very good life down in the zone and his 75 mph slider and 78 mph change up were quality secondary pitches that he commanded well.
Tom Leonardini
RHP - 2014 - Aptos, CA
San Francisco
Leonardini has a nice 6-3/190 pitcher’s build and a long, loose arm action that projects well. He worked the corners effectively with an 84-86 mph fastball that maintained its velocity into the 4th innings. Continued improvement of his secondary pitches will be the key to his further development.
Aaron Pinto
RHP - 2014 - West Covina, CA
Stony Brook
Pinto is a 6-0/185 right hander who comes right at hitters with three solid pitches, including a mid 80's fastball, a big sweeping curveball and a nice change up. There are reports he's been in the 88-90 mph range in relief situations this summer, too.
Luke Hussung
OF - 2014 - Studio City, CA
Orange Coast College
Hussung is a very interesting athlete in that he's 6-4/200 and has lots of power potential but is also a 6.7 runner. He's a few hitting adjustments away from taking the next step but has a high ceiling.
Kyle Wade
RHP - 2014 - Chino Hills, CA
Iowa
Wade has a solid 6-2/195 build and a loose and fluid arm that projects to add velocity over the next couple of years. He sat very consistently in the 84-86 mph range with a deceptive change up being his best secondary pitch.
Sam Carter
RHP - 2014 - Danville, CA
Uncommitted
Darren McCaughan
RHP - 2014 - Downey, CA
Long Beach State
James Thomas
RHP - 2014 - Fallbrook, CA
Uncommitted
Ross Dodds
3B - 2015 - Clovis, CA
Fresno State
Dodds showed the best bat at the event with a very strong line drive swing and consistent hard contact. He also has top level arm strength, throwing 90 mph from the outfield and 89 from the infield and the mid-80’s from the mound. Dodds projects as a third baseman in the future.
Jonathan Buckley
RHP - 2015 - Chino, CA
St. Mary's
Buckley is a big young athlete at 6-4/190 and should get really strong over the next couple of years. He has lots of right handed power potential at the plate but also has two-way potential on the mound, with a present fastball up to 84 mph.
