Derek Mosher is a 2006 catcher from Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a projectable 6'0", 170 lb. frame. Mosher is another very good young catcher who traveled to show his skills. He was the best defensive catcher at the event. He has great feet, and his blocking skills were outstanding. Mosher has soft hands and received the ball well. He showed very good arm strength (78 mph) with a quick release. He is an advanced defensive catcher, and shows he can handle high level pitchers. (he catches Zach Putnam at Pioneer) Mosher hits left handed with a good approach and solid bat speed from an open stance. He has a great understanding of the strike zone, and appears to be an outstanding hitter. Mosher makes consistent contact with very good bat control and is scrappy at the plate. He faced Jeremy Hellickson, one of the top pitchers in the country, and hit him well while others didn't even make contact. Mosher is an outstanding defensive catcher with solid hitting skills who hits well left handed. He has a bright future in college and/or pro ball.
