Dustin BeGuhn is a 2007 OF/RHP from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a strong and mature looking 6'1", 185 lb. frame. BeGuhn does several things well. He shows present bat speed with strength in his swing. Like many young hitters, he gets long at times trying to pull everything. However, BeGuhn will hit anything on the inner half with authority. He also shows good arm speed and arm strength from the outfield. His throws have nice carry and were on line with solid accuracy. On the mound he topped out at 78 mph with his fastball. He doesn't get great extension out front and it looks like he is rolling his wrist and turning over each fastball. It gives him good movement, but takes away from his velocity. BeGuhn uses his lower half well in his delivery and gets good leverage. He also mixed in a 62 mph CB and a slider at 66 mph. BeGuhn looks to have a solid future, and will improve his already strong hitting when he learns to use the whole field. He is also a very good student.

OF Dustin BeGuhn: BeGuhn is a young freshman outfielder from Iowa and the youngest participant in the Showcase. He has a nice athletic build for a youngster and is projectable to get bigger and stronger in the future. BeGuhn’s base athletic skills are strong. He ran a 7.16 in the 60 and showed some arm strength from the outfield that should improve in the future when he learns to get over and behind the ball instead of slinging from a low ¾’s arm slot. BeGuhn hits from a balanced stance with low hand position, a slashing swing and a low finish. He made good contact in batting practice and in the games but will probably have to make some adjustments down the road in his hand position and swing path to take advantage of his power potential and future strength gains. Overall, this freshman is a nice young player who we could be hearing plenty from over the next couple of years.
