Dustin Dickerson is a 2006 third baseman/first baseman from McGregor, TX with a lean athletic build at 6-4, 190 lbs. He's an excellent on-line runner for his size at 6.63 and his long strides mean there are going to be plenty of doubles and triples in his future. Dickerson is a pure hitter who projects as one of the top offensive players in the 2006 class. He hits from a calm approach with a little hand hitch timer and no stride from a slightly open stance. Dickerson has plus, plus hand strength and gets the bat head into the hitting zone very quickly. He has the ability to hit the ball deep in the zone with wood, which is very unusual for a hitter Dickerson's age. The ball explodes off Dickerson's bat to all fields and he has serious big league power. His fly balls stay up in the air for a long, long time. Defensively, Dickerson plays third base but profiles to first base or left field in the future. He moves well enough for third but his arm strength and hands aren't well suited for the position as the game speeds up. Dickerson is a very good student who is committed to Baylor but who will get plenty of attention this spring from the pro scouting community.

Dickerson was one of the very best 2006 players at our South Underclass showcase a week previous to this event. With his 6 foot 4 and 180 pound frame, Dickerson showed good tools and very mature hitting actions. He ran a 6.86 in the 60 and he got on base about every time by means of line drive from gap to gap. He again hit well from an even higher level of pitching, showing power potential. On the hill he showed a good lively 78-82 mph fastball, commanding 68-69 mph curve and very good looking change-up at 69-73 mph. He is a 2-way talent but we find it hard to put that bat second behind his arm. For a sophomore to perform the way he did in a senior-dominated event, we like his chances as a top 2006 player for the future. Top 2006 follow prospect !

Dickerson was one of the very best 2006 players and one of the top overall prospects in the entire showcase. With his 6 foot 4 and 180 pound frame, Dickerson showed good tools and very mature hitting actions. He ran a 6.86 in the 60 and he can run the bases as he showed after nearly every at-bat. He showed his base-running so much because he got on base about every time by means of line drive from gap to gap. He put on one of the best hitting displays off good live pitching in the event. He bats left-handed, showed some power with potential for much more and he stayed inside the ball well. In fact, he listed himself as a primary pitcher but we rank him much higher as an infielder. He might end up in the outfield because his foot-speed and athletic instioncts are too good to keep him at first. On the hill he showed a good lively 78-82 mph fastball, commanding 68-69 mph curve and very good looking change-up at 69-73. He has talent on both sides of the ball without question. For a sophomore to perform the way he did in this event with the bat, we have to think he will be sought after for hitting at the next level. We need to see him again, he is a top 2006 follow prospect.
