Valdes is simply one of the best true pitchers in America. He may not receive the type of draft interest that his ability warrents due to being a "untall" RHP. Make no mistake, he is extra good and has a magical right arm. He was 90 in Ft Myers, but it was so easy he just looks like he has much more in him. He throws 3 very good pitches all in the MLB category. He gets lots of tight spin on his breaking ball in the 74 mph range. Once again it looks like he could throw it harder. His changeup is good too, but he really doesn't need it to dominate in high school. The heater shows uncommon life at times. It is one of the reasons you know theres more there. Without going out on a limb we can safely say that Valdes has college all american written all over him. We think he will pitch in the Big Leagues some day baring injury.

Valdes showed us some good pitching potential that featured a plus change-up. It was the kind of change-up that opens your eyes and says swing. It was effective because he had a quick arm action, showed sinking life and had command of it. His 85-87 mph fastball was more than adequate in setting up batters for it. He also showed a curve that broke hard at times.

Valdez has some big time potential. He has nice arm action and throws upper 80s fairly easily. He can really spin the ball as well. Watchout for this kid. Could be a big surprise!
