2007 Hawaii Showcase Tournament
Kiley Kawazoe is a 2007 C/1B with a 6'0'', 240 lb. frame from Hilo HI, who attends Hilo HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Kawazoe has a big body, perhaps big boned, perhaps carrying more weight than he needs to at his age. However, in spite of his body, Kawazoe is a talented player, with surprisingly good feet and a bat that has a chance to draw plenty of attention in the coming years. Kawazoe looks to be capable of hitting for average and power. He creates above average power with a short, compact stroke. He generally stays inside the ball really well but also showed the ability to turn on an inside pitch and hit it a long way. He seems to understand both his raw power and his strength are attributes that he does not have to TRY to access. Behind the plate, Kawazoe showed a good transfer, though not quick. His feet work really well and his arm tracks to the bag, with a low effort arm stroke. Kawazoe's raw catching skills are very good and if he can get his body under control, he will develop into a professional prospect as a left-hand hitting catcher, with power and playable catch/throw skills. Additionally, he is a very good receiver, with soft hands, quiet actions, and the ability to pick up the ball out of his pitcher's hand really early, which also works for him as a hitter.
