Gavin Kinoshita is a 2009 RHP/OF with a 5'8'', 145 lb. frame from Honolulu HI, who attends Mid Pacific Institute. Selected as a Top '09 Prospect at this event. Kinoshita is not big and may not get much taller, but he is athletic, is well-proportioned and has good body control. He is a talented young pitcher, but may be limited in terms of long term development due to his body. He does have a very good arm action, good arm speed and creates excellent leverage. Kinoshita throws the baseball aggressively, particularly his low-80s fastball. His curveball (69 mph) can be a yakker, with 12/6 shape and tight spin, resulting in late downer action. He throws his change-up with good hand speed too. Kinoshita has good mound presence and good stuff, for his size. Offensively he stays short to the ball, with a line drive swing and good plate coverage. He is a solid outfielder too. Very good baseball skills are present in Kinoshita and he is a good student. No matter how big he gets, he is going to develop into a good college pitcher. Look for him to eventually climb into the mid-80s, complemented by a really good curveball and competitiveness.
