Eric Hillenbrand is a 2007 RHP/OF from Torrey Pines HS, residing in San Diego, CA, with a 6'3" 225 lb. frame. Hillenbrand was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase. He has a strong and physical body with raw power. Hillenbrand is a primary pitcher, but it is the opinion of some scouts that he has a brighter future as a hitter. A right handed hitter, Hillenbrand does a nice job of getting his foot down early and gets good extension through the ball. Hillenbrand shows strength at contact and has present day power from gap to gap, perhaps more to right center. He has good bat speed and uses the opposite field well. Hillenbrands possesses a good trigger to start his swing and stays flat through the zone, creating some spin off the bat. He is a middle of the order type bat at the college level. In the outfield he showed his strong arm and made low arc throws. He has a patient approach to the ball, which is good because his lateral agility is limited. On the mound Hillenbrand is an out-getter. He pitches from a 3/4 arm slot and his best pitch is a slider/slurve that he throws aggressively for strikes and uses to get those outs. Hillenbrand has a mid-80s FB, which has been the case for the last couple of summers. He does reach up to 88 on occasion and has a durable body and what looks to be a durable arm. He is a good D1 prospect and it seems that his bat has caught up with his pitching. It is possible that for some college programs Hillenbrand is a two-way prospect. It is conceivable that he would be drafted in the lower rounds, but it is likely that Hillenbrand will have to prove himself at the college level before getting a pro ball opportunity.

Hillenbrand is a 6-3, 215 lb 2007 pitcher/outfielder from San Diego, California with a strong athletic frame. Hillenbrand showed excellent arm strength throwing 89 mph from the outfield and off the mound. At the plate, Hillenbrand swings from a wide base and uses a nice simple spray approach. He has raw power and bat speed. Hillenbrand has a two piece load and looks to hit with power. Hillenbrand has nice smooth mechanics and hides the ball well off the mound. He gets good extension in his delivery and has good command. He throws an 89 mph fastball that has armside run on it along with a 72 mph curveball, and a 77 mph change up. His curveball gets good break and his change up gets good action and run on it. Hillenbrand works quick on the mound and is aggressive in the strike zone. He is one of the top players in the country in the 2007 class and is a definate 2 way prospect.

Eric is 2007 right handed pitcher/outfielder with a strong physical, big boned body. It looks like he's been lifting plenty of weights and working on his strength and will need to monitor how tight he gets in the future. Eric threw very well at the event, topping out at 89 mph with his fastball and showed two types of breaking balls that both had quality and sharpness. Eric's arm works well, with good arm speed and extension out front. He lands a bit closed and throws primarily with his upper body and when he gets more linear and incorportates the power from his lower half, his velocity could take an impressive jump. We've seen him in big games before and he's a bulldog on the mound. Although Eric isn't the type of prospect as an outfielder as he is as a pitcher right now, he's still impressive. His strength helps him generate very good power and the ball jumps off his bat. With his arm strength and power, he's a prototypical right fielder profile at the upper levels. Everyone will be seeing a bunch of this young prospect over the next few years

Eric Hillenbrand -- Hillenbrand is a freshman right hander from San Diego who should have a very bright future. He has a very strong and mature body for his age at 6-3, 190 lb and plenty of room, especially in his upper body, for continued growth. Hillenbrand topped out at 84 mph for us, outstanding velocity for a freshman, and maintained his fastball well for 3 innings. Most notable is that he could probably throw harder right now with some mechanical adjustments. Hillenbrand opens up real early, falling to the first base side and ends up with a long, slinging arm action. Get him more directional to the plate and he’s going to get better right away. Hillenbrand gets some good spin on his curveball up to 70 mph but the pitch tends to be a little flat because of his arm action and tendency to be under the ball. Hillenbrand also threw a couple of change ups. This is definitely a young man to keep on eye on for the next few years. He could easily develop into one of the top prospects by 2007.
