2007 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Josh Gray is a 2008 OF with a 6'2'', 175 lb. frame from Thousand Oaks, CA who attends Westlake HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect at this event and yet he is still a long way from being as good as he will be. Gray has a long and lanky build, with fluid athletic actions and a projectable body. He has a high level of ability and makes the game look easy at times. As he continues to get stronger his bat is going to really stand out. Presently he has plus bat speed and a very lively swing. Gray's hands really work and he has good timing to go with an aggressive, 'hit first' approach. Tough to sneak a fastball by this kid. On the bases he is good too, coming out of the box hard and looking to take the extra base when it is there. There is little doubt that he is an impact player in the making. In the outfield Gray tracks the ball easily, with grace. He is not a burner but he runs well enough to play centerfield, particularly with the jumps he gets and the angles he takes. His arm is solid and we expect both his arm and his speed to improve as he develops physically. All told, Gray is fun to watch play not only because he is talented, but he plays with passion and understands how to play the game.
