Karlen is a 5-10, 180 lb middle infielder from Texas with very good present strength. He has short, quick actions in everything he does on a baseball field with both his feet and hands. Karlen ran the 60 in 7.10 but plays faster. He has smooth fielding actions and especially good hands. His actions seemed better suited to second base during the games but he has the arm strength to fill in at shortstop as well. Offensively, Karlen has a crisp, quick swing and is simple and compact to the ball. He surprised us with his power when he blasted a triple over the centerfielder's head one game. Karlen had one of the best fundamental swings we saw in Waco and projects as a solid hitter at the Division I level for us. Karlen also took the mound and showed an 80 mph fastball with good command and mound presence. Karlen is a solid all around talent who knows how to play and performs at a high level. He is also a very good student.
