Lamp is a 5-11, 185 lb catcher from Houston. He ran the 60 in 7.23 and threw a strong 77 mph in catching drills with a best pop time of 2.02. Lamp’s best tools right now are with the bat. He has a strong base and hips and a balanced line drive swing with a rock back load. Lamp showed the ability to wait on the ball and used his hands well with the wood bat. He made consistent hard contact to all fields during both batting practice and during games and looks like a high average, productive type of hitter who projects to the college level. Lamp will need to continue to work on his defensive skills and tools but he looks like a good young player with a future in the game. Lamp is a very high level student who has his eye on a number of top academic schools nationally. He should be able to compete on the baseball field at that level as well as do well in the classroom.
