Complicated right handed swing, very good raw bat speed, good extension/power potential, very open stance, needs to simplify but tools there. 3B tools, good arm strength, smooth hands, long strider, 6.99 runner. Bat will determine ceiling. He was named to the top prospect team at this event.

Tyler Bighams is a 2009 SS/3B from Cathedral Catholic HS, residing in San Diego, CA, with a 6'0" 175 lb. frame. Bighams was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase and is a potential future invitee to the National Showcase. He has a strong and athletic build which is quite advanced for his age. Though he is pretty physical now, his body is still maturing as it should be for a young player. Bighams, a right handed hitter, hits from a slightly open stance and has a very good set-up at the plate. He is a strong young player with a very lively, aggressive swing and good bat speed. His swing plane is flat through the strike zone resulting in Bighams being a line drive type hitter with projectable power, due to bat speed and strength. He stays in the middle of the field well and should be able to handle a variety of pitches. He competed well in an event with players that were generally two years older than him. On defense Bighams goes to the ball well and is an aggressive defender. He has good hands and a quick, strong arm. His foot quickness is better than his actual speed, which may allow him to stay at SS for awhile, though probably not long term. His arm/elbow slot tends to create some tailing action but overall has skill/tool set suggest that Bighams is and will continue to be an above average defensive player. There are some things that Bighams needs to work on, but it is important to focus on this young player's strengths. He should be on all D1 follow lists that include 2009 graduates and also looks like he is going to be a professional prospect too.

Tyler Bighames is a 6' 174 pound 2009 infielder from San Diego, California who attends Cathedral Catholic High School. He is an athletic kid that has a lean projectable build with long legs and lots of room for added muscle. Tyler has a nice loose and easy swing and uses his hands very well to generate good bat speed through the hitting zone. He has a good idea how to hit and throws the bat head at the ball. He uses his leverage well and the ball sounds different coming off the bat than others. Bighames has very soft hands in the field. He has good instincts and very quick reactions to the ball. His foot speed and hands are good enough to play up the middle. Tyler has a great upside to his game and is a very good student as well with a 3.4 gpa.

Tyler Bighames is a 2009 middle infielder/third baseman from San Diego, California with a lean, lively body at 5'11", 165 pounds. He hits from a narrow open stance with a late load. He has good bat control and hits line drives to the opposite field with consistency. He has good bat speed for his age and he makes solid contact. He will hit for big power as he matures and adds strength to his young frame. Defensively, he has quick hands and a solid glove. He has some arm strength and he makes accurate throws. He has good baseball instincts and he plays the game hard. He is very interesting with a lot of years to mature and he could develop into a top level prospect. Tyler is a good student.
