2007 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Ruben Salazar is a 2008 C with a 5'11'', 180 lb. frame from Walnut, CA who attends John A. Rowland HS. He has an average frame and a strong, athletic build. Salazar has a good skill set for the college game. He is the type of player that does not have standout ability now and could benefit from a couple of JC years. He has a chance to hit and does have solid defensive skills that are developing well. Offensively he has some control and awareness of the barrel and is able to stay in the hitting zone. He stayed back on offspeed pitches well and stayed on the curveball well. Salazar has some present day pop and could develop more. Defensively he showed a solid catch/throw transfer and has developing receiving skills. Unlike so many of the catchers we see, Salazar did a nice job on pop ups. He also put in solid effort to block balls in the dirt.
