Craig Bartfish is a 2008 LHP/OF with a 6'0'', 150 lb. frame from Lincolnton, NC who attends North Gaston HS. He has a mature look to him with some strength and looks closer to 170 lbs than what he's listed at. Bartfish flashed some interesting pitching tools that could be developed. He has a high effort delivery that causes some consistency problems but which also provides lots of deception. He has an overhand release point on his pitches. Bartfish threw a 77-81 mph fastball that was very live, with late cutting or boring action depending on how he released it. His 71 mph slider flahses real sharpness at times and can get under good hitter's bats. Consistency is the real issue with Bartfish; he'll throw 3 straight pitches to the backstop, then throw 5 straight strikes, then repeat the formula. Bartfish is a good overall athlete. He is a very smooth and agile first baseman on defense and can also play in the outfield. He swung the bat pretty well in games and showed some bat speed. He has a chance if he can develop that consistency in his pitching mechanics.
