Hunter Ovens is a 2007 right hand hitting outfielder from Cardinal Mooney HS, residing in Bradenton, FL. He has a physical build with broad shoulders on his a 6'2" 220 lb. frame. Ovens just looks the part of a power hitter and physical player. One of the nation's more talented players, he ranked #29 among PG National Top 100 position players. A bruiser with the bat, Ovens hits from a square stance. He has very loose and relaxed hands that fire to the ball with a short, powerful swing. He stays inside the ball well and keeps his bat flat through the hitting zone. Ovens is a line drive hitter with power to get into the gap easily. His mistakes will leave the yard and his home runs are not likely to be the towering variety, rather the line drive missiles that are nearly rising as they leave the yard. He is an aggressive hitter with good bat control, a very good combination. In the outfield all his tools play for right field. Ovens has a very accurate arm with near plus raw arm strength. His angles and jumps are good, making him a prototypical right fielder prospect. This physical athlete ran well too, with a 4.29 home/1st time and a 6.86 laser timed 60. Ovens is likely going to get early first day draft consideration and is a premier D1 prospect, capable of starting as a freshman at most programs.

Hunter Ovens is a 2007 outfielder from Bradenton, FL with a muscular athletic build at 6-2, 212 lbs. Ovens is physically mature and works hard on the weights, something he'll have to be careful about as he gets older for fear of becoming stiff. Ovens is a top tools player, with outstanding 94 mph arm strength from the outfield and very impressive 6.79 speed in the 60. He has very good throwing mechanics from right field, which results in a quick release and accurate, on-line throws. We've been watching Ovens swing the bat for a couple of years and know what he's capable of doing physically. He has plus, plus bat speed at times and big time power potential. This summer he's gone to a hitting style that doesn't fit his swing and skills and has suffered for it. Ovens is hitting from a straight up, narrow stance with little stride and little lower half involvment. With a high leg kick his approach resembles Barry Bonds, except that Ovens is 16 years old with different physical qualities. Pitchers will tell Ovens that he needs to modify his approach and as a 2007 prospect he has plenty of time to do so. He is a very high ceiling player who is a hard worker almost to a fault. Ovens is also a good student.

Hunter Ovens is a 2007 outfielder/catcher from Bradenton, FL with a very solid build that shows very good strength at 6-2, 212 lbs. Defensively, he has big league arm strength at 90 mph from the outfield with lots of carry and accuracy. He has a quick first step and shows very good reactions off the bat. He has a lot of strength in his wrists and hands and he generates big time bat speed. He has huge power potential and he will hit for average too. He centers on the ball well and he makes solid hard contact to all fields. He is one of the best outfielders in the country for the 2007 class with very good draft potential. Hunter is a good student.

Hunter Ovens is a 2007 OF/C from Bradenton, Florida, with a strong 6'2", 210 lb. frame. Defensively, Ovens has pro level arm strength (89 OF) with a quick arm and very good carry. He still needs to refine his fielding actions, but he has the athleticism and tools to be a highest level outfielder. He also ran 6.95-60, which is very good for his size. It is amazing how advanced his approach at the plate is for a 2007. Ovens is very quick with good balance and hand strength. He attacks the ball and doesn't get cheated on any of his swings. He shows present raw power that will only improve as he learns what pitches to drive. Ovens is rated as one of the top 2007 graduates in the country. He will be fun to watch the next two years, and is already a top level prospect.

Ovens is an extra strong sophomore outfielder from Florida with the potential to be a 5-tool player. He has a big league body right now. Ovens ran the 60 in 6.97 and shows very good range on defense. He threw 89 mph from the outfield with an over the top release and outstanding carry on his throws. Ovens just mashes at the plate. He has a quiet approach with some drift into the ball. Ovens bat speed and hand strength at contact is excellent and the ball explodes off his bat. He projects huge power in the future. Ovens is not an all or nothing power guy and his balance and level swing plane result in excellent contact ratios. Ovens has been playing at a high level for a couple of years and is comfortable playing against top level older competition. Top national level 07 prospect!

Hunter Ovens is a 2007 OF from Bradenton, FL. Ovens has been playing high school baseball since he was in 8th grade. He has a very solid build for his age at 6'1", 190 lbs. but is still loose and projectable. His youth is overshadowed by his tools and strength and he was one of the better prospects at the Showcase and has a good chance of evolving into a high level college player or potential draft choice. This kid is a player. He took an excellent batting practice, showing loft power with a nice, smooth swing that had both bat speed and extension. Ovens arm is big league average right now from the outfield and he’s a very good runner as well. Ovens also pitched a couple of effective innings, hitting 80 mph with his fastball from an over the top release point. Could end up being one of the top prospects nationally in the 07 class.
