Bender is a 5-10 right handed pitcher from New Jersey with a medium athletic frame. He has a sound, smooth and controlled delivery that enabled him to hit spots effectively to both sides of the plate. Bender’s fastball was in the 81-84 mph range and he alternated hand side running action and some cut depending on his grip. Of course, any pitcher named Bender is going to have a decent breaking ball and Bender did in a mid-70’s slider that had good velocity and a short, sharp break. Bender didn’t throw a change up that we noted. He also showed his arm strength during outfield drills throwing 84 mph from there, too. We don’t consider Bender a position player prospect at this point but he did take a nice BP and had a couple of hits against live pitching. He is an excellent student.

Jack Bender is a 2006 right handed pitcher/outfielder from Cranford, New Jersey, who showed real promise on the mound. He threw from a 3/4 arm slot, with a free and easy motion producing an explosive 83-85 mph fastball. He had good command, and showed a solid 71 mph breaking ball to go along with a 74 mph split/change that stayed down and was his best pitch, after his fastball. Bender showed very good balance, and a calmness on the mound. In the outfield, he showed excellent arm strength and range. At the plate, Jack showed very good bat speed out of an even stance with good extension. He has excellent power potential as he peppered line drives all over the field during BP. Bender definitely has Division 1 talent, at what level will be determined within the next year. He has a bright future, and we look forward to seeing him at future events.
