Andrew Kraus is a 2009 OF with a 5'11'', 176 lb. frame from Strawberry Point, IA who attends Starmont HS. He has a good frame with plenty of upper body strength. Kraus worked out in both the infield and outfield during drills and is clearly more comfortable in the outfield. He has good outfield fielding fundamentals and a strong, accurate throwing arm. Kraus is a left handed hitter with an aggressive power type swing. He has some tenseness in his hands and upper body and unleashes it with a long wrapped swing that has plenty of bat speed and some lift at the end. Kraus is going to drive some balls hard and swing through some other pitches and he did both at the showcase. His best contact was to centerfield and he has the ability to drive the ball the other way, which is good to see in a young hitter. Kraus is a 7.50 runner. He is a good student.

Andrew Kraus is a 2009 3B/OF/P with a 5'11'', 167 lb. frame from Strawberry Point, Iowa, who attends Starmont High School. Kraus has an average frame with some present strength in his body. Kraus ran a 7.47 sixty, but runs better under way from first to third. Defensively he has solid arm strength defensively with good accuracy. He can play either a corner infield spot, or in the outfield giving him position flexibility. At the plate he is a left handed who hits from a slightly open stance. Kraus is an aggressive hitter with bat speed through the hitting zone. He has a line drive swing plane that stays in the zone well. His nice swing and allows him to hit to all fields, and he handles the curve ball well for a young player. He makes consistent hard contact. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a long arm circle on the back side. He throws strikes with his fastball that topped out at 81 mph, and he mixes in a sharp slider. Kraus is also a good student.

Andrew Kraus is a 2009 3B/OF/P with a 5'11'', 167 lb. frame from Strawberry Point IA, who attends Starmont HS. He has an athletic, projectable build and should continue to get stronger. Kraus hits from a spread, crouched stance and has a smooth, line drive swing. He flashed some present bat speed and should keep improving in the future as he matures and could develop power down the road. Defensively, Kraus showed solid arm strength for a freshman with a long arm stroke. He'll need to work on his foot quickness and lateral mobility as the game speeds up. He's a 7.34 runner in the 60. Kraus also pitched a bit, throwing 78 mph from a low 3/4's release point. He has a long, slinging arm action in back and gets good late running action on his fastball. Kraus projects some velocity. His breaking ball is a big sweeping 10/4 slurve that will get hitters off balance. Kraus is a good student.

Andrew Kraus is a 2009 third baseman/right handed pitcher from Strawberry Point, Iowa, with a 5'10", 150 lb. frame. Kraus ran a good 60-time for his age, and showed good game quickness as well. Defensively, he has a quick arm with good arm strength. He has solid footwork, but he fields the ball too close to his body, which is common among young fielders. Kraus hits from a wide stance with no stride and a high hand set. He centers the ball well and showed good power potential. He uses the whole field and hit one ball 84 mph off the bat. On the mound, Kraus has very good arm speed with good mechanics. His fastball topped out at 76 mph from a 3/4 arm slot. Kraus also mixed in an 11 to 5 curveball with some depth. He had solid control of both pitches. Kraus did a nice job using his lower half in his delivery. He did have a slight hip turn out of the stretch. Kraus has a very good set of tools, and it should be fun to watch him over the next few years. He is a must follow.
