Shaffer might be the top 2005 player in the Northeast. He is an OF from Athol, MA with a strong 6'1"/196 pound body. He ran an outstanding 6.76 60 during workouts and showed a strong accurate arm with good carry at 87 mph, but he was at 92 mph at the National Showcase at Tropicana. Offensively, he tears the cover off the ball with a controlled, aggressive approach to the strike zone. He can hit for average and shows excellent power potential. He has a great attitude and he is one of the top ranked players in the country. He has great playable tools and he will be a very good draft prospect in 2005. Jake is also a good student.

Jake Shaffer is a physical athletic 6'1/196 OF from Athol. MA. He has one of the quickest left handed bats in the country and really attacks the ball and pulls it hard. He’s also an above average 6.82. 4.15 H-1, MLB runner who throws MLB plus 92 mph from the outfield, although that arm strength doesn’t translate to mound. The bat plays very large with a nice simple swing that creates plus MLB bat speed. He is quick to the ball and projects serious power potential. This is a potential early draft bat. Jake is a very good student.

Jake Shaffer -- Shaffer is a junior outfielder from Massachusetts with a very lively, strong athletic body. He showed us two above average big league tools in his running speed and his throwing arm from the outfield. This is a young man who is going to attract the pro scouts attention as well as top college programs. Shaffer is a left handed hitter who hits from a no load, no stride approach off a wide base. Shaffer’s quick twitch muscles are obvious as a hitter and he generates good bat speed with a slashing style swing at the plate. He doesn’t show much interest in pulling and lofting the ball right now but he has the strength and bat speed to hit with power in the future with a different approach. Shaffer is a very good student as well. Keep a close eye on this top level prospect.

Shaffer is an outfielder with a gifted arm and good foot-speed. He bats and throws left-handed and showed some big ability in both areas. He threw 88 mph with good long carry to home plate from right field and he ran a 6.99 in the 60 on a slow track. His actions in the outfield play well with his speed and arm-strength. At the plate he hit some deep line drives with backspin and he lifted a couple showing some loft power. He took the mound and threw 83-84 mph with a very good 73 mph curve on a 12-6 plane. But his ability on the field and at the plate worked even better for him. He could end up doing both and we selected him to do both for the Top Prospect team. He can play at the very highest levels and probably will. Jake is an excellent student.
