Andrew DeSousa is a 2007 RHP with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who attends Xavier High School. DeSousa has a good pitcher's build with a lean and wiry frame that is projectable. On the mound he is a right handed pitcher who throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a loose and easy arm action. DeSousa has a long, calm delivery, and shows good balance over the rubber. His fastball topped out at 86 mph, while working at 81-85 mph. He has projectable velocity, but his best pitch is his curveball. DeSousa throws a sharp breaking ball with deep break and good spin. He also shows a good feel for his change-up at 77 mph with sink at times. He has the potential to throw with three quality pitches at the next level. DeSousa has good upside, and he is an outstanding student as well.

Andrew DeSousa is a 2007 RHP with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Cedar Rapids IA, who attends Xavier HS. He has a solid athletic body with some present strength. DeSousa has a balanced delivery and sound pitching mechanics. He tends to vary his release point from high 3/4's to a more standard 3/4's release point and his stuff is much more consistent and his velocity better when he's down lower with his release. DeSousa is a polished pitcher with an idea how to get hitters out. His best pitch is a hard downer curveball that tops out at 74 mph and will get hitters out consistently at the college level. DeSousa's fastball is 84-86 mph and he's able to throw it to spots, especiially from the proper release point. We've seen DeSousa throw a quality change up in the past and also a slow "get me over" curveball in the past but he didn't use those pitches this time out. DeSousa has the stuff and ability to pitch to be very successful at the college level. He's an outstanding student as well.

Andrew DeSousa is a 2007 RHP with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Cedar Rapids IA, who attends Xavier HS. He has a mature frame with good present strength. DeSousa throws from a tall delivery with a high 3/4's release point and a hard front side on his release. He's balanced and fluid in his delivery and arm action and repeats his delivery well. He's consistently 84 mph on his fastball and has the ability to spot it in and out. DeSousa's best pitch is probably his curveball. He throws it at two speeds depending on what he's trying to do and where in the count he is. The 66 mph curveball is more an early count get ahead pitch, while the harder, sharper 74 mph curveball is a put away pitch. DeSousa also throws an effective change up. He has a very good idea how to pitch and should be very effective at the next level as his velocity picks up. DeSousa also showed good hitting and athletic ability at the showcase. He ran the 60 in 7.04. At the plate, DeSousa has good bat speed from a somewhat long swing and showed nice power to the middle of the field and a consistent ability to square up on the ball. DeSousa is an excellent student.

Andrew DeSousa is a 2007 RHP/3B/1B with a 6'1'', 175 lb. frame from Cedar Rapids IA, who attends Xavier HS. He has a good athletic build and projectable strength. DeSousa throws from a tall, balanced, under control delivery with a quick, compact arm stroke. He lacks ideal extension out front but he's not a power pitcher and his compactness gives him very repeatable mechanics and top level command potential. DeSousa has all the pitches and knows how to mix them up and change speeds, movement and locations. There isn't much reason for him to throw two straight pitches the same to a good hitter. DeSousa's fastball was 80-83 mph with very good sinking and running action and enough velocity to keep hitter's honest. His change up was a replica of his fastball in release point and movement but only at 69-71 mph. DeSousa threw two types of breaking ball, a 72-74 mph slider that showed good sharpness at times and a big, slow 63 mph curveball. He slider was his go-to breaking ball and he used the curveball more infrequently more as a surprise pitch to give the hitter another look. DeSousa is wise beyond his years on the mound and should be very effective. A smart college coach is going to want this young pitcher on his staff. De Sousa is also an excellent student off the mound.
