2004 South Top Prospect Showcase
Jeff Langston is a raw tooled 2005 catcher from Wimberley, TX, with a pro prospect 6'2/195 body and well above average Major League arm strength right now. His throw times are only average now because his release is a bit slow and deliberate, but Langston’s throws are accurate and few catchers in the country can generate the velocity on their throws that Langston can. His receiving skills looked raw, but Langston is a very good athlete for a catcher and should be able to improve with experience. He even runs well and showed a 91 mph throw from the outfield. It would be interesting to see him on the hill. Offensively, Langston hits from a balanced approach with a good load and stride. His weight transfer is very early, however, and Langston tends to be way out front with his body, which lengthens his swing. He generates good bat speed, though, and really showed some very good power to right centerfield. Langston has very good physical tools and could get much better in a short amount of time. He needs to be followed closely. Jeff is a good student.
