Jeff Ussery is a 6'3", 176 lb. 2006 shortstop from Hilton Head, South Carolina, with running speed. He showed solid arm strength (81 mph) on his throws in the infield. With good arm strength and very good accuracy, Jeff's infield tools project out well at the next level. Jeff is a switch hitter. From the right side he hits from an open stance and shows average balance in his swing with above average hand strength and fair bat speed. He tends to keep his hands in close to his body and not extend through the ball. From the left side he hits from the same stance with better bat speed, better balance and a much higher percentage of hard contacts. With added strength, Jeff projects out very well from the left side of the plate and should develop some power as well. Very good 2006 prospect. He is an excellent student.

Jeff Ussery -- Ussery is a tall and slender 6-3 with plenty of projection and excellent body life. He played both infield and pitched and he profiles better on the mound right now, but as he gets stronger he could go the other way. He comes right at hitters with an 81-82 mph fastball, pretty good velocity for a lean sophomore and also throws a 69 mph curveball and 74 mph change up that show promise. Ussery has the athletic ability, speed and arm strength to project out at SS at the next level. He switch hits showing good hitting actions, bat speed and swing path both ways. He looks a bit more comfortable with his athletic actions from the right side. .Very interesting "06" prospect and an outstanding student. Could end up being a special player or pitcher.
