2004 Underclass National Showcase
Joey Winker -- Winkler is a young sophomore outfielder/first baseman with broad shoulders and lots of projection. He swung the bat very well both in games and in batting practice, with a very high percentage of solid contact in both. Winkler hits from a quiet approach with a balanced, level swing that’s going to get solid contact most of the time. As he adds strength and size, Winkler should develop nice power for the next level. He is a good runner, too. Winkler also threw 3 innings. His arm works smoothly but he has a lot of lower half mechanical issues that keep him from realizing his physical potential. He threw 74-76 mph with some tailing action on his fastball and also had a flat, sweeping 63 mph curveball. He’s an excellent student.
