Jon Gilmore is a 2007 SS/3B/P with a 6'3'', 195 lb. frame from Iowa City, IA, who attends City High. Gilmore has a great frame with present strength and athleticism. Defensively he has smooth actions at third base with good footwork. He has the range to make all the plays, and outstanding arm strength to make the play deep down the line. At the plate he has plus bat speed with raw power. Gilmore gets leverage at the point of contact and can drive the ball to all parts of the field. During game action, he hit balls very hard to the opposite field and back up the middle. Gilmore also showed the ability to stay on the breaking ball and hit it to the opposite field with authority. Great makeup and loves to play. Great upside to this already extremely talented player.

Jon Gilmore is a 2007 SS/3B/P with a 6'3'', 190 lb. frame from Iowa City IA, who attends City High. He has an outstanding pro profile type build, with wide shoulders and loose, long limbs. Gilmore showed a very aggressive swing from a slightly open stance and some of the best raw bat speed you'll see at this age. If anything, Gilmore was too aggressive, he tends to spin off balls with his extended swing but usually manages to stay balanced. Gilmore is very leveraged at contact and shows impressive raw power when he squares up. He has the chance to be a very high draft choice next spring.

Jon Gilmore is a 2007 right hand hitting 3rd baseman/right hand pitcher from City HS, residing in Iowa City, IA. He has a strong, broad, high waisted build on a very projectable 6'3" 190 lb. frame that should just keep on getting more and more impressive. Gilmore has a well-rounde tool set and shows not only high ceiling projectability, but excellent present day usability of his tools. He was ranked #11 among PG National Top 100 position players and selected for the Aflac All-American Classic, moving into the elite of the 2007 high school class. Gilmore has an aggressive, yet quiet and under control approach at the plate. He has excellent present day extra base power and well above average future power potential. he is strong but still developing strength. His bat speed is a plus, from the start of his swing when he fires his hands easily and quickly to his acceleration through contact. Gilmore has a knack for getting the barrel to the ball and it just leaps off his bat. He is a present day middle of the order bat and a future high impact middle of the line-up bat, at each level he plays. In the field Gilmore is capable of playing and staying at shortstop for many if not most college teams and even for a time in pro ball. However, his long term position is 3rd base, where his reactions and tools all grade out quite well. He has a strong, near plus arm and soft hands. He athletically covers ground to the backhand and into the six-hole with feet he controls well and always seem to have underneath him, set up to throw. Gilmore is one of the 3rd baseman that people someday will say they would pay to watch play defense. He is also a quality pitcher, with a long, power arm stroke and good arm speed. He is an athletic strike thrower on the mound. His fastball was 87-89 with a touch of 90 and some decent sink. Gilmore also showed a slippery 71 mph slider. If for some reason he doesn't hit, the mound is a fallback option. He ran 4.59 home/1st with a 7.11 60 yard time. Gilmore is one of the most sought after players by top D1 programs and will also get upper round consideration this spring. The tough thing for Gilmore is that in Iowa the high school season takes place during the summer, so much of Gilmore's evaluation took place this summer and more will take place in Jupiter this fall.

Gilmore is a 6-3 sophomore shortstop from Iowa and potentially one of the best prospects to come out of the state in recent years. Although he’s just a sophomore, Gilmore is already a four tool player, with only running speed (which combined with his size will probably move him eventually to third base) being below professional grade. Gilmore has a big time arm and already throws 89 mph across the infield and has been in the upper 80’s off the mound this spring as well. He has clean, smooth fielding actions at shortstop, quick feet and might fool a few people by staying at shortstop if he can maintain and improve his quickness. Gilmore has well above average power potential at the plate. He has a busy setup with lots of hand and bat action that he’ll need to refine at some point but he generates excellent bat speed with loft and extension in his swing. Gilmore swings the bat hard and the ball jumps hard. We had one line drive off his bat at 96 mph. This young athlete should just continue to keep improving. He's a high national level prospect. Top Follow.
