C Jonathan Arencibia: Arencibia is coming off a great high school season where he tied Alex Rodriguez’s career home run record at the powerhouse Westminster Christian program in Miami. He has a strong, mature body and a maturity about the game that’s a perfect match. Arencibia’s made some subtle changes to his swing this spring and they work for him. He’s more spread out and generating better bat speed with some natural loft to his swing. Arencibia is a polished defensive player with very good arm strength as well and he’s used to playing at the highest levels of elite high school baseball. He’s signed to attend Tennessee.

Arencibia is a PG/WWBA regular but we’ve never seen him better than he was at the World Showcase. He’s always been a very good batting practice hitter who hits the ball very deep in the zone with strong hands and excellent power to right centerfield, but starting this past fall, Arencibia took this approach into games better than ever before. He hit a couple of rockets at 94 mph off the bat and even lofted a 7.00+ second big league pop up when he just got under one. Arencibia’s defense was very good as usual. He shifted quickly in games and recorded three sub 1.91 times during the skills workout while showing big league average arm strength. Jonathan even runs very well for a catcher. We’d expect this Tennessee signee to create a lot of scouting interest this spring. The Miami area is catcher rich this year and Arencibia is one of the very best..

Arencibia has a good solid catchers body at 6'2/200 with room for even more additional strength. Defensively he looked a bit quicker last year, but he wasn't quite as big last year. He still moves very well and has an average MLB catchers arm. As he gets more accustom to the added size he should get all the quickness back. He's definitely one of the top catchers in high school baseball both current and future potential. Jonathan has a beautiful swing and can flat out hit. He has quick hands and good hitting mechanics. There is outstanding potential for power in his swing. Right now he's more of a line drive, gap type hitter. There's no question, his best days are ahead of him. He can catch and hit at any college program in the country and he could end up being a real good draft pick. He is a good student.

Keep a close eye on this "04" catcher. He has a very good catchers body and big time receving skills. He moves like a big cat and blocks balls in the dirt like a veteran. His arm strength is close to MLB average already. He only needs to speed up the transfer a little and he can get that done. At the plate he is equally impressive. He hit several line shots real hard. He projects to hit with lots of power. He even showed advanced ability to stay back and drive breaking balls. Definitely a good prospect who could move way up the charts by next year. We kind of expect that to happen.
