He hits from a slightly open stance with a high back elbow and closes well. Smietana has solid mechanics and stays inside the ball well. He uses the whole field and makes consistent contact. He does get long at times and needs to add strength to increase his power. Andrew has soft hands in the infield with a good glove defensively. He has solid range and good instincts. Andrew Smietana is a 2008 MIF/3B with a 5'10'', 150 lb. frame from Bethel CT, who attends Bethel. Smietana has a smaller frame with a slender wirey build. Defensively, he has very active feet and he moves to the ball well. Smietana showed good range and can make the picks. He has arm strength and made good online throws. He has a clean arm action and gets carry on his throws. At the plate, Smietana uses a wide stance and starts his swing with a high stride. He uses a long load and maintains good balance through his swing. Smietana throws the bat head to the ball well when he gets loaded and keeps his head on the ball. He has a level swing path and is presently a good contact hitter. He has an idea of what he's doing at the plate and will hit for gap to gap power as he fills out. Smietana is an outstanding student.

Andrew has solid arm strength with carry on his throws across the infield. He has active feet which help make his defensive actions solid. Andrew has soft hands and made a great charging play in the showcase games. At the plate, Andrew starts with a narrow stance and uses a hands back load. There is a lot of weight shift in his swing and he uses a rotational approach. Andrew has bat speed and demonstrated excellent patience at the plate to get a pitch he could hit. Andrew has a solid tool set to build upon as he improves. Andrew is an outstanding student.
